Ex-Union minister RCP Singh resigns from JD(U) after party seeks reply on corruption allegations | Patna News

PATNA: JD(U)’s former president and former Union minister Ramchandra Prasad Singh, commonly known as RCP, resigned from the party and its primary membership on Saturday, two days after the party asked him to give an explanation on all the immovable properties (plot of lands) the members of his family have got registered in their name in the last nine years, from 2013 to 2022.
“I am announcing my resignation from the primary membership of the JD(U) through this press conference. I will soon send my resignation letter,” Singh said while talking to media persons at his native village Mustafapur in Bihar’s Nalanda district on Saturday.

“All the lands mentioned in the party workers’ allegations were purchased in the names of my two daughters Lipi Singh and Lata Singh. The former is an IPS officer and latter is an advocate. Both have been filing their separate income tax returns for the last 10 years. All the lands have been purchased through legal means,” the former party president said.
“Today, I am deeply sad because they have now gone to such a low-level to level allegation of corruption against my daughters and spouse. How can I continue with such persons?” he asked and added, “I once again challenge those persons who have made allegations to prove the charges of corruption against me. Not a single plot of land has been purchased by me.”
“The way I have been being mentally tortured for the last one-and-a-quarter years, you all people are watching. You denied me a ticket for the Rajya Sabha, I didn’t mind. You vacated me from the house, I didn’t mind. Now you have stooped to such a low that you are levelling allegations on my family members,” Singh, the bureaucrat-turned-politician, told reporters.
Singh’s wife Girija Singh (a homemaker) and their two daughters Lipi Singh (a Bihar cadre IPS officer) and Lata Singh (an advocate) are the members in the former Union minister’s family.
Sending a letter to Singh on Thursday, the JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha asked the party’s former national president to give his ‘point-wise’ clear-cut explanation on the allegations raised by two party workers of Nalanda, the home district of Singh. Kushwaha also sent a copy of the party workers’ allegations to Singh.
Incidentally, Kushwaha was appointed as the state president by Singh when he was the party’s national president.
“In their petition, the party workers have mentioned that you and members of your family have got registered huge immovable properties (plots of lands) in their name from 2013 to 2022. The party workers have also submitted certain documentary evidence to support their allegations,” Kushwaha said in his letter.
“You are well aware that our honourable leader (the CM Nitish Kumar) has been working with a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ on the issue of corruption and he has remained untainted in his long political career,” Kushwaha said in a letter to Singh.
In his letter to Singh, Kushwaha also claimed that several irregularities have been noticed in the properties acquired by Singh’s family.
Though Kushwaha has not mentioned the name of the party workers who made allegations against Singh and the members of his family, the JD(U)’s Rahui (Nalanda) block president Rakesh Mukhiya on Saturday came before media and said that allegations against Singh has been levelled by him. Mukhiya said he had been procuring the documents of lands purchased by Singh’s family for the last 10 years. “When I procured sufficient documents, I made a formal petition before the party,” Mukhiya told reporters.
In his petition to the JD(U), Mukhiya has alleged that huge plots of lands were purchased in the name of Singh’s wife Girija and his two daughters Lipi and Lata mainly in Ashthawan and Islampur blocks of Nalanda districts in between 2013 to 2022.
JD(U) parliamentary board chairman Upendra Kushwaha said, “Our party has ‘zero tolerance’ policy on the issue of corruption. The party has taken the right step by asking Singh to explain his stand over the allegations. The party will decide the future course of action based on his reply.”
Singh, once a confidant of the CM, stepped down as Union minister on July 6 after the party denied him the third consecutive term in the Rajya Sabha. Upon resignation from the Union cabinet, he has been staying at his native village, Mustafapur in Nalanda district.
Around a week ago, Singh’s supporters and loyalists raised slogans like “Bihar Ka CM Kaisa Ho, RCP Babu Jaisa Ho” when the former Union minister was going to a village in Patna district’s Ghoswari block to participate in a ‘Shradh’ ritual.
