NEW DELHI: The police have arrested two persons and charged them with murder in connection with the death of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat in Goa.
She died under mysterious circumstances in the coastal state on Tuesday.
Who are the accused?
The two, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasiare said to be associates of Phogat, who was brought dead to the St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa district on August 23 morning. The duo accompanied her when she arrived in Goa on August 22.
What did the medical report say?
Initially, the cause of the death was mentioned as a suspected heart attack. However, a post-mortem report later said there were “multiple blunt force injuries” on her body. After this, Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was added to the case related to the death of the 42-year-old leader.
What did the family allege?
In a complaint filed on the day of her death, Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka named both the accused. Three years ago, one of her aides had sexually assaulted her after spiking her food and later blackmailed her, Dhaka further said in the police complaint.
