CHENNAI: A Chennai-Dubai IndiGo flight (6E 065) was delayed for more than six hours on Saturday after a man made a hoax bomb threat call to the city police control room to prevent his sister from travelling to Dubai. The man, who stays in Chennai’s Manali, has been detained.
Around 60 passengers had already boarded the plane on bay 13 when the call came around 7am. The boarding was stopped. The passengers were evacuated and moved to the terminal.
The flight was moved to an isolation bay for checking. The aircraft was checked by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad.
“We followed the standard operating procedure. The check- in bags were scanned again. The passengers were screened,” airport director Sharad Kumar said.
“Such calls are hoaxes in 98% of the cases,” he added.
The flight departed at 2pm.
