Emerging designer incubators Fashion East just announced its lineup for the Spring Summer 2023 showcase, including Jawara Alleyne, Karoline Vitto and Michael Stewart’s label Standing Ground. Each designer is set to present an on-schedule show during London Fashion Week, supported by Fashion East’s longstanding partner, Nike.
This season, The Mills Fabrica will play host to Fashion East’s showcases in the heart of King’s Cross. Joining an existing community of conscious innovators and entrepreneurs, the new destination marks a shift in attitudes for LFW-goers, moving towards a more considered approach to consumption.
First up is Jamaican-Caymanian Jawara Alleyne, set to present his fourth and final collection with Fashion East this SS23 season. Continuing his ethos of inventive sustainable practices, Alleyne’s work seeks to challenge the traditional lens of masculinity, “celebrating sensuality and dissecting cultural mythology,” according to the press release. Thus far, Alleyne’s designs have been worn by Rihanna, Bella Hadid and Kendrick Lamar.
Next is Brazilian-born and London-based designer Karoline Vitto, who utilized deadstock fabrics from the LVMH showroom, Nona Source, for her debut collection with Fashion East. Vitto’s work aims to showcase a unique viewpoint on gender ideals, highlighting hidden aspects of the female form in a bid to celebrate and uplift. Vitto’s clothing has previously been worn by the likes of Paloma Elsesser, Precious Lee and Shygirl.
Completing Fashion East’s line-up is Irish designer Michael Stewart, whose label Standing Ground prioritizes craftsmanship above all else, fusing the worlds of past and future. Known for its contemporary evening wear, custom garments and body ornaments, Standing Ground focuses on proportions and silhouettes, utilizing draping and sculpting techniques to inform its pieces.
Fashion East’s presentation will take place at London Fashion Week on September 16.
