Plano tech campus sells for new electronics manufacturing complex

A global electronics firm has purchased a Plano tech campus for a new manufacturing and office center.

Freemont, Calf.-based Delta Electronics bought the former Alcatel USA complex off Plano Parkway near Coit Road.

Built in 1994, the 30-acre campus has two buildings and is located north of the Bush Turnpike.

Delta Electronics says it purchased the Plano property to create “a landmark site for the R&D, manufacturing and sales of smart energy-saving products and solutions.

“The complex, which accommodates facilities of over 400,000 square feet, is expected to create hundreds of jobs while aiming to support additional long-term local jobs across a broad ecosystem of suppliers and partners,” Delta Electronics said in an announcement about its purchase.

Officials with the U.S. division of the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company said it hopes to partner with Texas universities and colleges to create skilled workers for its new facility.

“The Plano complex exemplifies Delta’s deeper commitment to the development of a resilient supply chain while also expanding our footprint in the U.S.,” Kelvin Huang, president of Delta Electronics Americas Region, said in a statement. “We expect this new site to operate 100% on renewable electricity by 2030.

“Delta is a company deeply rooted in innovation, and we will develop cutting-edge technologies in our new facility while aiming to generate a great number of jobs for talented Americans in the Southwest.”

Founded in 1971, Delta Electronics has had operations in the U.S. since 1980, with locations in California, North Carolina, Texas, Michigan, Massachusetts and Washington.

The company produces a line of smart energy-saving equipment used in industrial automation, building automation, telecom power, data center infrastructure, EV charging, renewable energy and energy storage and display.

Delta operates sales offices, research centers and manufacturing facilities across five continents.

The Plano buildings were purchased from Austin-based real estate investor and developer Capital Commercial Investments, which acquired the property in 2018.

Capital Commercial has a track record of purchasing and repurposing large office campuses.

In 2020 Capital Commercial purchased the former American Airlines headquarters complex south of DFW International Airport.

And last year the company acquired the former J.C. Penney headquarters in Plano.
