Celebrate sustainability through a series of events for Slow Fashion September • Glam Adelaide

The fashion industry is one of the top three leading causes of climate change in the world, churning out more emissions per year than both the shipping and aviation industries combined.

The rise of online shopping and the constant pressure to keep up with changing trends has resulted in an increase in low-quality, cheap garments that are designed to be worn a handful of times before being replaced. In 2020, more than 100 billion new garments were made worldwide with less than 1% of this recycled into new items and instead being sent to landfill.

In a bid to combat the growing severity fast fashion poses to the environment, local event organiser, Louiza Hebhardt, has created ‘Slow Fashion September’ – a month-long series of curated events that promotes sustainability and encourages the community to better understand their shopping habits and the effects they may have.

Now in its second year, more than sixty local South Australian businesses have signed up to get involved through markets, mystery bus tours, workshops and information sessions, all for the sole purpose of education and awareness around the issue. This year will see events span across the state from the CBD and the surrounding regions from the Fleurieu to Flinders Ranges.

“Slow Fashion September will be bigger and better than ever this year,” says Naked Pony event organiser Louiza Hebhardt. “Vintage, upcycled, handmade, recycled, repurposed: we look forward to showcasing slow fashion and sustainable living in all its forms, and there will really be something for everyone to learn and enjoy.”

Some highlights of this years calendar include:

· An exclusive one-day market at Market Shed on Holland, featuring the best in Adelaide’s slow fashion and sustainable living scene

· Mystery bus tours to sustainable shopping venues and eateries around Adelaide,

· Dulcie’s Carpark Bonanza

· Clothes swaps

· Masquerade Soiree

· #stitchitdontditchit

· Gilles at the Grounds
