Syracuse football’s travel roster: Jason Simmons makes trip to UConn; Derek McDonald gets new number

East Hartford, Conn. — After being unavailable in Week 1 due to an upper body injury, Syracuse football defensive back Jason Simmons made the trip to the University of Connecticut for Saturday’s game.
Injured or unavailable players typically don’t travel for away games, as is the case for injured Orange players Chris Elmore, Stefon Thompson and Justin Lamson, who are all out for the season.
Simmons’ listing on the team’s Week 2 travel roster indicates it’s likely he could see the field in some capacity against the Huskies.
The junior had 41 total tackles, one interception and one forced fumble for Syracuse last season.
After a breakout game against Louisville, linebacker Derek McDonald will wear No. 15 as SU takes on UConn. Defensive back Neil Nunn, who usually wears the number, did not make the trip.
Freshman defensive back Dom Foster also did not make the trip. He was suspended prior to Week 1 for a violation of team protocols. The program has not made a statement on whether or not he will return or when.
Other players who did not make the trip for the Orange include freshman defensive lineman Francois Nolton Jr., redshirt sophomore defensive back Aman Greenwood and redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Anthony Red.
