NEW DELHI: China seemed to be opening its doors finally for Indian students and other visitors as it announced on Monday an updated visa application procedure that will ease the Covid-induced visa ban. The revised policy will come into effect on August 24.
India had repeatedly called upon Beijing to allow Indian students, who number close to 23,000, to return to their universities in China. The visa application procedure and requirements were also updated for Pakistan and Afghanistan nationals.
China, since November 2020, had kept suspended all types of visas for Indian nationals except diplomatic and official. Unlike India, China had even stopped issuing business and employment visas. Other categories of visas announced by the embassy included M-visa issued to those who intend to go to China for commercial and trade activities, F-visa issued to those who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, study tours and other non-commercial activities and Z-visa for those who intend to work in China.
