Lady Raiders ready for 10-day foreign tour trip to Greece

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lady Raiders are ready for Greece!

Coach Krista Gerlich and the entire Lady Raider squad will hit the road on Saturday afternoon to head to Dallas ahead of the first of two flights on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Lady Raiders will fly from DFW Airport into Atlanta’s Hartfield Jackson. After a brief layover in Atlanta, Tech will to take to the sky around 4:30 p.m. (CT) on Sunday for the 13-hour direct flight into Athens.

The Lady Raiders will land at around 11:30 a.m. local time or 3:30 a.m. (CT) on Monday, beginning the first of five days in Athens.

Day one’s activities includes a bike tour through Athens and a team dinner.

After some much needed rest, the Lady Raiders will have an opportunity to take a tour of the Acropolis and the surrounding museum before the first of three games on Tuesday.

Wednesday brings the third day in Athens for Texas Tech and the chance for the members of the program to explore Europe’s second-oldest city before the second of three exhibition games.

Tech’s third full day in Athens brings one of the highlights of the trip, an all-day boat trip to the scenic Soronic Gulf & Islands. Also known as the Gulf of Aegina, the Saronic Gulf and its surrounding islands features

stunning beaches and shops.

The city of Chania (Crete) awaits the Lady Raiders on Friday, as Tech will take the approximately hour-long flight into Chania. Once settled in Chania, the travel party will embark on a walking tour of the city that will include the opportunity to shop and eat dinner.

It’s once again gameday on Saturday (Aug. 13) as the Lady Raiders will play the third and final exhibition game on Saturday night. Prior to the game at 7 p.m. (local)/11 a.m. (CT), members of the travel party will take part in a cooking class and will again have the opportunity to walk around and shop in Chania.

Sunday (Aug. 14) is the last and final full day in Chania and will once again feature a beach day, this time at the historic Elafonisi Island and Beach. Known for its iconic pink sand crushed from seashells, the Lady

Raiders will have the opportunity one last day at the beach.

On Monday (Aug. 15), members of the travel party will check out of the hotel in Chania and after lunch will board a flight back to Athens, where one last night in birth place of Democracy awaits.

The foreign tour will come to close on Tuesday (Aug. 16), as the travel party will take off from Athens at around 2 p.m. local time (6 a.m. CT) and begin the over 12-hour flight back to the states.

All games will tip-off at 7 p.m. local/11 a.m. (CT) and follow will FIBA rules.
