CANNES, France – Tomorrow morning, the Oklahoma women’s basketball team will pack its bags and make the 275-mile journey northwest to Lyon after wrapping up three days on the Cote D’Azur. A 72-hour period spent on the Mediterranean Sea, exploring Cannes and an excursion to Monaco is coming to an end, wrapping up the first portion of the Sooners’ Summer Tour in France.
To get to France, the Sooners underwent a long 5,500-mile trek that began in Oklahoma City on Wednesday morning and went through Dallas and London before arriving in Nice, France, late Thursday morning. On day one, the Sooners arrived in Nice and traveled via bus to Cannes. The travel party enjoyed lunch at the private beach at Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes before splitting up and exploring all that the city had to offer.
After fighting off jet lag, the team was ready to tackle the trip on Friday (day two). First, the party walked to the port at Cannes and boarded a catamaran that took the team into the Mediterranean Sea, where the team could cool off, paddle board, canoe, and jump off the boat into the water. The second leg of the boat trip took the Sooners to Île Saint-Honorat, a small island that houses an abbey. While on the island, the travel party was treated to a meal with a view at a local restaurant. That evening, the team enjoyed pizza at a restaurant overlooking the water.
On the team’s final day in Cannes, they boarded the bus and traveled east to Monaco. A guided walking tour showed off the principality, highlighted by a lunch overlooking the port and an excursion to the famous Monte Carlo casino. One final team meal at Café Roma put a cap on an exciting first part of the trip.
