Dearborn Advanced Tech’s DaNia Womack selected to MHSAA Student Advisory Council – Press and Guide

Dearborn Advanced Tech’s DaNia Womack has been selected to join the MHSAA Student Advisory Council.

Womack, who is an incoming junior, was one of 115 applicants for a spot on the council, of which just eight are picked each year. The MHSAA announced its selections in May.

The council is a 16-member group that provides feedback from a student’s perspective on issues that impact educational athletics. In addition, the council is involved in the operation of MHSAA championship events and other programming.

Members of the council serve for two years, beginning as juniors. Eight new members are selected annually, with nominations made by their respective schools. The new members will join a group of eight incoming seniors who are headed into their second school year on the council.

Womack is a three-sport athlete at Advanced Tech and she is third in the 2024 class academically. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the student council. In addition, she is part of the Early Middle College program.

“DaNia is first and foremost a leader in the classroom. She is loved and respected by the entire student body and faculty throughout our K-12 building, said Advanced Tech Athletic Director Chris Schultz in a written statement. “On the field of competition, she is a fierce competitor with a kind heart. She has been selected a captain by her peers on each team even though she (was) just a sophomore.”

The council typically meets seven times each school year, and once more for a 24-hour leadership camp. Also, the council discusses issues dealing with scholarship, sportsmanship, safety (including health and nutrition) and student leadership.

Womack will be the second consecutive Dearborn-area student-athlete on the council. 2022 Dearborn High graduate Amina Ferris was selected ahead of the 2020-21 school year and recently wrapped up her two-year term on the council.
