Man detained for allegedly issuing fresh death threats to Mukesh Ambani | India News

MUMBAI: The D B Marg police on Monday arrested a 56-year-old jewellery designer from Borivali for allegedly abusing and issuing death threats to industrialist Mukesh Ambani. The accused, Vishnu Vidhu Bhowmikmade nine calls to the landline number of sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital, located near Grant Road railway station.
“The accused made calls between 10.39 am and 12.04 pm on the landline number of the hospital. The accused had got the number from some public portal. He also mentioned the name of Late Sh. Dheerubhai Ambani, in one of the calls. Looking at the seriousness of the offence, police detained the suspect from Borivali (West) and brought him to the D B Marg police station. A detailed interrogation is on,” said Neelotpal, deputy commissioner of police.
In one of the calls, the accused introduced himself as Afzal.
“As we concluded our flag hoisting ceremony at the hospital, that is when we got 8 to 9 calls from the same caller threatening our chairman between 10.45 am till 12.00 noon. Right after, Mumbai police was alerted, FIR was lodged and the team has begun investigations to understand further details of the caller,” stated Dr Tarang GianchandaniCEO, HN Reliance Hospital.
Bhowmik has a jewellery shop at south Mumbai. “We are interrogating him and trying to find out the motive behind these calls,” said an officer. Cops have seized Bhowmik’s mobile phone and will send it for cyber analysis to find out if he tried to make threat calls in the past too. “The calls are recorded at the hospital and we have taken them for investigation,” said an officer. A security officer of the hospital lodged the FIR. Police have booked Bhowmik under section 506 (II) {punishment for criminal intimidation} of the Indian Penal Code. Bhowmik will be produced before a Girgaum court on Tuesday.
Bhowmik Is originally from Tripura and has been staying in Mumbai for the last 25 to 30 years. Police said there were one or two previous criminal offences against him and they were verifying about it. He stays in Borivali (west) with his wife and two children.
Personnel from CRPF, which provides security to Ambani, also visited the police station and met senior officers. Central and State level security agencies also sought details from the local police about the case.
Last year in February, an explosive laden car was parked near Antillia, Ambani’s residence in south Mumbai. The security agencies had arrested assistant police inspector Sachin Waze, now dismissed, and several others for allegedly parking the car near Antillia and their alleged involvement in the case.
