The show has been covered over the years, with local models showing off extravagant gowns and the latest fashion designs from visiting designers. Considered a staple of the Laredo fabric, fashion has continued to grow, and local fashionistas have garnered attention for their own work.
Jude Hinojosa, a student of the Central Saint Martins’ Masters Fashion program in London, has been chosen as one of five students whose work will be featured in Dr. Martens’ “All Access Summer” campaign.
And on the city streets of Laredo, photoshoots have seen partnerships between the Dreamers Photography School and Avanti. According to Avanti Director Laura Cervantes, the photoshoot was a part of a course where the models prepare different outfits and themes of attire based on the concept of rock. The theme lends itself well with the lifestyle of bikers, which is where the collaboration with several motorcycle groups came to be.
Cervantes is the director for both the Laredo and Houston Fashion Week, which has been a boon to modeling and fashion for the border area. As New York has strict prerequisites, local models can showcase visiting international designers’ collections this August for Laredo Fashion Week.
