JAMMU: A high-level security meet was held in Rajouri on Saturday to discuss an action plan for countering the emerging threat in the wake of a spurt in terror activities in J&K’s Rajouri and Poonch districts.
The meet comes after August 11’s pre-dawn fidayeen (suicide) attack on an Army establishment in Parghal, Rajouri, in which two terrorists killed four soldiers. The attackers were also killed in the operation. Three days later, on August 14, terrorists fired at security forces during a cordon-and-search operation in Rajouri’s Sojan forest area but managed to escape taking advantage of inclement weather.
“The meeting was attended by ADGP (Jammu Zone) Mukesh Singh, GOC 25 Division and GOC Romeo Force besides intelligence agencies, Brigade CommandersSSPs of both districts and SP (Operations) Shopian,” said a police spokesperson.
Intelligence agencies briefed all present about the recent trends in terror activities. A detailed discussion was held about the same and an action plan was devised to counter the threat, said the spokesperson.
“Earlier, ADGP Singh visited the Thanamandi Bowl and was briefed by the SSP and SDPO on the suspected movements of terrorists. The ADGP also visited IRP 2nd Battalion headquarters where a guard of honour was presented to him,” the spokesperson said, adding that the ADGP also held separate meetings with police officials and instructed officers regarding their role and responsibilities.
