Defence Ministry fast tracks military powers to buy indigenous weapons

The
Defence
Ministry
on
Monday
approved
the
grant
of
financial
powers
to
the
armed
forces
for
emergency
procurement
of
indigenous
weapon
systems
and
ammunition.
The
decision
comes
in
the
backdrop
of
the
continuing
two
year
long
military
stand-off
with
China
along
the
Line
of
Actual
Control
(LAC)
in
Eastern
Ladakh.
The
entire
acquisition
process
has
to
be
completed
within
six
months
under
this
processs
and
the
upper
limit
for
each
contract
is
Rs
300
crore,
a
report
in
the
Times
of
India
said.
The
new
process
will
cut
down
delays
and
also
help
the
armed
forces
plug
the
operational
deficiencies
swiftly,
the
report
also
said.
