Denim Trends Percolate at Copenhagen Fashion Week – Sourcing Journal

Copenhagen Fashion Week, which took place Aug. 8-12, maintained its reputation as a hotbed for new approaches to upcycled, recycled, functional and seasonless fashion that leaves space for creativity.

The street style seen off the runway was just as inspiring, too. Attendees once again showed off their fearless sense of style with bold colors, big shapes and non-traditional denim pieces.

From Barbiecore pink and Bottega Veneta green to Gen Z yellow and digital lavender, the latest viral color trends made their presence known in denim. Denim coordinates in saturated shades of orange, green and pink were accented with monochromatic handbags. Vibrant mid-tones were used for color-blocked looks. YouTube star Emma Chamberlain stepped out in a yellow mini dress—made with natural dyes—by Levi’s x Ganni.

When it came to blue jeans, “basic” was not in the sartorial vocabulary of Copenhagen Fashion Week attendees. Metallic coatings, two-tone constructions, cutouts, crossover waists, leg-revealing slits and fraying were popular statement-making details for jeans. Jean jackets veered from one extreme to the other with extra-long sleeves, bulky shoulders and bolero lengths. Denim kitten heels and tall boots added new meaning to “head-to-toe” dressing.

Nods to workwear were seen throughout with denim vests, cargo pants and carpenter jeans styled with bra tops, colorful ballet flats and head scarves.

Bottom fits remained wide and slouchy. Cinching jeans hems with lace-up stilettos was a popular styling trick that carried into another emerging ‘It’ piece: nylon and twill cargo pants. The Y2K-era pant was worn low and loose with midriff-baring tops and feminine footwear.
