5 Must-Read Books From Fashion & Lifestyle Influencers

The kids are heading back to school, but they aren’t the only ones who are picking up new books to read! I have been adding plenty of new books to my shelf (and my Kindle) and in particular, I have been loving reading books by influencers and marketing experts. From essential insights into the industry to behind-the-scenes memoirs from creators who have lived through the evolution of social media, these are 5 reads to add to your fall homework list, pronto!

Jacey Duprie is a fashion influencer that I’ve known since back when we still called them bloggers, so you know she has experienced the full spectrum of living life on social media and turning influence into a business. Her new memoir, Liking Myself Backtakes you behind the Instagram filters, sharing Jacey’s life and the lessons she’s learned along the way. As someone who works in the influencer industry, I know how easy it is to be swept up by the picture-perfect presentations we see on social media and forget what is real beneath that, but Jacey’s book does a fantastic job taking you deeper, with plenty of relatable life lessons along the way.

Julie Solomon is the definition of an unstoppable businesswoman, so it is only fitting that she should write the guide to becoming one! A business coach and host of The Influencer Podcast (my episode with Julie here), Julie has seen it all and knows her way around business negotiations, acting with confidence, and more. Get What You Want provides lessons on finding purpose, setting boundaries, making dreams a reality, and ultimately achieving the life you want. It’s a must-read for women no matter what industry they work in.

With the rise of social media, we have all found ourselves perhaps more hungry for validation and the approval of others than ever before. While seeing those little red hearts light up on a picture can feel good, it can also make us feel inadequate, and the urge to compare ourselves with others who seem to be more successful, more beautiful, more…whatever can be detrimental to one’s mental health. If you have ever felt like social media has made you feel imperfect or find yourself seeking validation in the real world, Susie Moore’s book may be just the thing to help you refocus your energy and rid yourself of the constant comparing.

This book is essentially the closest thing the influencer marketing industry has to a guidebook, and I encourage influencers, managers, and brand representatives alike to read it. Brittany Hennessy has worked as a social media strategist and as the Senior Director of Influencer Strategy and Talent Partnerships at Hearst Magazines Digital Media, and she’s experienced the changing world of influencer marketing in the fashion and beauty industry as it emerged. From first building an audience to transforming a social following into a full-fledged business, Brittany’s book offers incredible insights into the world of influencers.

If you are looking for a book that is equal parts picturesque coffee table book and insightful book, World of Style by Aimee Song is for you. Aimee is one of the top fashion influencers around, and she has spent over a decade sharing her stylish life on the ‘gram. This book shares 500 of her favorite looks with annotations sharing details about her life, inspirations, favorite spots, and more. This will inspire you to style a killer outfit, plan your next international adventure, and dream.
