Women’s Soccer Set to Travel to North Carolina for a Pair of Contests

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women’s soccer team (2-0, 0-0 Ivy) will look to continue its strong start to the season this weekend when it travels to North Carolina to battle the University of North Carolina Greensboro Spartans (2-1-1, 0-0 SOCON) and the No. 17 North Carolina State Wolfpack (3-0-1, 0-0 ACC). The game against UNCG will take place on Friday, September 2 at 4:00 PM and the contest against the Wolfpack will kickoff on Sunday, September 4 at 1:00 PM.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Harvard enters the game with a 2-0 record after wins over CCSU and Northeastern
  • This marks the second consecutive season where the team has posted a 2-0 mark
  • The Crimson posted three goals in both contests to secure the wins
  • The program is now undefeated in its last 36 contests in which it scores three or more goals (35-0-1) dating back to 2011
  • Harvard is outshooting opponents 31-12 so far in 2022
  • Hannah Bebar (one goal, two assists) has totaled four points in her first two games
  • Angela Caloia has also helped the offense, recording a goal and an assist against Northeastern
  • Aslaug Gunnlaugsdottir leads the team with 140 minutes played in the defensive half of the field and has added an assist in the offensive third
  • Through two games, Harvard leads the Ivy League in goals (six) and assists (six)
  • This will be the first meeting the Crimson and the Spartans
  • Harvard and North Carolina State have met only once before in 1985, which resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Crimson
  • The Wolfpack are ranked at No. 17 in the latest Topdrawer Soccer Poll
  • Gunnlaugsdottir (Iceland), Josefine Hasbo (Denmark) and Jade Rose (Canada) were all called up to their respective national teams this past month and will travel to compete internationally in select FIFA/ World Cup qualifying matches

Harvard women’s soccer will continue the nonconference portion of its schedule at home next week with a pair of games against Long Beach State and Massachusetts. The Crimson will take on Long Beach State on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00 PM and UMass on Sunday, September 11 at 1:00 PM.
