See Raymond Lee Travel Through Time In The Quantum Leap Reboot First Look

The Quantum Leap reboot will act as a sequel to the original series that ran from 1989 to 1993. The original series starred Scott Bakula as physicist Dr. Sam Beckett, who leaps to different periods of time taking over someone’s body in the process to correct a historical mistake. The revival will take place three decades after the original. A team, including physicist Ben Seong, is assembled to study the Quantum Leap accelerator and learn the mysteries of the machine and the man who created it. While it hasn’t been announced if Scott Bakula is returning to the revival, it seems promising that he may factor into the series at some point. Since his character mysteriously vanished, it would be an exciting story element for Ben Song to find him.

The Quantum Leap reboot has a full cast of characters alongside Raymond Lee’s Ben Seong. His team will be comprised of a no-pragmatic Army veteran named Addison (Caitlin Bassett), the chief architect in charge of the Quantum Leap project’s AI unit named “Ziggy” Ian Wright (Mason Alexander Park), and head of digital security Jenn Chou (Nanrisa Lee). Leading up the operation is Herbert “Magic” Williams (Ernie Hudson), a no-nonsense military man. The story kicks off when Ben makes an unauthorized leap for an unknown reason, seeking to right some wrongs. The series should feature Ben jumping into plenty of new time periods and people, making for a diverse and interesting story.

If the Quantum Leap reboot gains some traction in the ratings, we could be seeing the birth of a new franchise. Executive producer Deborah M. Pratt, who starred in the original series and produced and wrote many episodes, has stated interest in pursuing spin-off shows and tie-in movies. For those who were disappointed with the ending of the original series, this is great news. Fans will remember that the series didn’t really receive a definitive ending. The finale left fans hanging with a cliffhanger in the form of a title card stating that Beckett never returned home. It seems likely that this reboot would fix a historical mistake of its own and give fans some closure on the fate of Beckett.

One thing is certain if the new Quantum Leap reboot doesn’t get a big enough audience for NBC to greenlight more seasons, we likely won’t be getting any movies or spin-offs at all. We may not even learn the fate of Beckett if that plot point isn’t revealed in the first season.
