— Durham was named one of the most underrated U.S. travel destinations, according to a CNN Travel list published Sunday by a world-famous travel blogger.

The list cited Durham’s boom in population, culture, and sports as a reason people should visit.

“Few American cities have experienced a more dramatic turnaround over the past 15 years,” the article by CNN travel blogger Joe Yogerst said.

Yogerst has traveled across the world — but said he was impressed with Durham’s American Tobacco Campus, the Duke Lemur Center and the Durham Bulls game and stadium.

His trip to Durham in May concluded after he was traveling through Turkey, Coatia and Virginia.

Yogerst is from San Diego, California.

Other areas featured on Yogerst’s list were the White Sands National Park in New Mexico, the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah and the Kaʻū District of Hawaii.

Yogerst has published several books for National Geographic about travel.
