It is time for Amsterdam, Ibiza, and Rio de Janerio to move over. There is a new party capital that is making a name for itself. Once a sleepy surfer village in southern Bali, Canggu is fast becoming the party capital of Asia…and the world.
Canggu sits on the southern coast of Bali in Indonesia, located west of Kuta, Seminyak, and Legian. They have each become world-renowned party destinations in their own right over the last 25 years.
Canggu has rapidly expanded in the last decade, leading to the development of luxury beach clubs, lavish yet affordable accommodation, and an unmissable nightlife scene.

Canggu’s Best Beach Clubs
Canggu’s party scene is perhaps best known for its beach clubs. All of which have played an enormous role in putting the area on the map.
Finns Beach Club is widely regarded as the best beach club in Bali, offering guests a choice of four pools, eight bars (two of which are swim-up!), and five different restaurants. The venue hosts live DJs sets daily and sits right on Berawa Beach. Grab your spot for the spectacular sunset, and when the sky turns dark, it’s time to ramp up the music and party the night away.
Atlas Beach Club only opened in July 2022 and is already making its mark as Bal’s best one-stop entertainment venue. Now the biggest beach club in Bali (with aspirations of being the biggest beach club in Asia), the venue is going all-out to guarantee guests have the time of their lives. Hosting world-class DJs and also offering access to Berawa Beach, Atlas Beach Club is another must-visit party hotspot.

Party Hard, Live, And Work In Canggu
Canggu manages to balance a hardcore party scene with health, wellness, and sporty vibes. There are countless gyms, surf schools, and spas for travelers to sustain the party lifestyle without compromising their health. Famous for surfing, the beachside village now welcomes MMA fighters, yogis, skaters, and CrossFit junkies. Canggu has long been a favorite destination for influencers and travel bloggers. It is now got a thriving community of digital entrepreneurs.
Known affectionally as ‘The ‘Gu’ by long-term international residents, has universal appeal. There is an increasingly global community in the area, with many Australians, Americans, and Europeans making the place their new home. In fact, Bali officials are working hard to make it easier for digital nomads to set up shop.
There are two ways for travelers to stay in Canggu. One option is the 30-day tourist visa on arrival, open to citizens from 75 countries, including the USA. The visa costs IDR 500,000 (USD 33) and is valid for 30-days, it can be extended one time for an additional 30-days.
Indonesia’s tourism minister has announced that digital nomads can live in Bali’s best digital nomad towns, like Canggu, on the B211a socio-cultural visa. This is valid for 60 or 180-days and can be processed online. The 180-day visa costs IDR 6,000,000 (USD 400), and take 4-days to process once the relevant paperwork has been submitted.
Instagram Vs. Reality Of Partying In Paradise
Canggu is a well-loved destination, but the area has recently hit the headlines. Not everyone is stoked at the area’s new party capital status. Naturally, locals and long-term international residents are concerned about how the party scene affects the area’s reputation.
Just 10 years ago, Canggu was a rural, coastal village infrequently hosting a few thousand surfers and travelers looking to escape the busier beaches of Kuta, Legian, and Seminyak. Now, development is booming. Agricultural landscapes have transformed into guesthouses and hotel complexes. Roads originally built for a few local moped users now compete with full-blown rush hour traffic jams.
However, this isn’t bad news; action is being taken to ensure that Canggu can sustain its development. Local senators have voiced their concerns about road infrastructure to the provincial government. Officials have said they will review development budgets next year. It is hoped that funds will be disturbed to level up infrastructure to benefit the local community and the tourism industry.
A petition went viral in early September as local residents complained about noise from major venues exceeding 90 decibels. Local authorities have taken swift action. They will coordinate with all venues to ensure noise levels remain below 70 decibels. A solution why hope will mean that the party scene does not clash with local residents and other holidaymakers in the area.
There is no doubt that Canggu’s party scene is going from strength to strength. As perhaps the world’s best-kept secret party destination, the area is low-key no more! Once known only by the experienced few, Canggu should top the bucket list of every party-focused traveler from here on in!
