Don Bosco STEAMs ahead in the ESports domain

As modern technologies like drones, driverless cars, robotics, AI, continue to advance, the demand for STEAM skilled professionals has intensified. However, it is important to give the ESports arena its due importance in the modern age. Hence, the most eagerly awaited event of 2024 the ‘DaVinci SoccerBot Championship’ (DSC), an initiative by ISR LIFE, USA is being hosted by Don Bosco School, Park Circus, one of Kolkata’s premium schools. The grand finale will be held on 4th May 2024.

“By promoting STEAM education, we empower students to lead the way in technological advancements, including artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, augmented reality, internet of things, 3D printing etc. Through interdisciplinary learning, hands-on projects, and focusing on Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity, we are able to equip the present generation of students with the tools they will need to thrive in a rapidly evolving world” says Dr. George Panicker, Founder & CEO of ISR LIFE.

As part of a project-based learning process, ISR has been successfully running DaVinci SoccerBot Championships, a unique competition for school students pan India since 2022. This unique event blends sports with science, technology, engineering, arts & math, providing an exciting entertainment experience.

Teams of students design, build, and program robots to compete in soccer matches. The integration of arts adds an extra dimension, allowing participants to showcase their talents and innovation. Besides technical and artistic aspects, students also develop teamwork, entrepreneurship, and project management skills while promoting STEAM appreciation in their communities, inspiring more young people to pursue STEAM-related fields.

“This unique competition provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their teamwork, skills, innovation, creativity, problem-solving abilities and strategies in a fun and engaging way. They will also learn how to manage the entire championship, from planning to execution” says Ms Komal Bhagat, DSC Event Manager.

In recent years, India has made significant strides in its journey towards a technology-centric environment. Initiatives such as Startup India and Digital India have played a pivotal role in propelling the nation toward becoming a major hub for STEAM skilled workforce.

In the past few years, the demand for STEAM skilled personnel in India has surged by almost 50%. Data indicates that 80% of jobs in the next decade will require essential STEAM skills. To sustain this growth trajectory and ensure a robust global economy, it is imperative to prepare students right from their schooling age.

ISR LIFE plays a significant role in promoting affordable and sustainable STEAM education and fostering holistic development of students by setting up and operating STEAM Labs within schools.

Through STEAM education, entrepreneurship and innovation in India will rise to meteoric heights in the imminent future. This is because, within a STEAM Lab, students will receive encouragement to generate novel and imaginative ideas, construct models or prototypes of their inventions, and even explore launching their own ventures based on the knowledge acquired in an ISR STEAM Lab. This forward-thinking approach aims to empower the next generation with the skills and mindset needed to drive progress and contribute to India’s technological landscape.
