JAMMU: Border troops shot at and wounded a previously repatriated Pakistani intruder while foiling an infiltration attempt by a suspected suicide squad along the LoC in J&K’s Rajouri on Sunday, barely 10 days after an officer and two soldiers were killed fighting off a fidayeen attack on an Army camp in the same district.
The Army said Tabarak Husain, who had been caught in 2016 along with his brother and imprisoned for 26 months before being repatriated to Pakistan through the Wagah border in Punjab, was found injured and immobile after the guns fell silent and the rest of the terror squad possibly retreated from the Jhanger belt of Nowshera sector.
“He was screaming, ‘Main marne ke liye aaya tha, mujhe dhoka de diya. Bhaijaan, mujhe yahan se nikalo (I came to be killed, I have been cheated. Brothers, please get me out of here)’,” an officer said.
Tabarak worked for the Pakistan army’s intelligence unit for around two years and went through six weeks of training as a “guide” at a Lashkar-e-Taiba camp across the LoC in Bhimber, he said.
The wounded intruder is being treated under high security at the Army Hospital in Rajouri. “The medical team found out that he was shaved from head to toe. Based on past experience, we know that terrorists on a suicide mission do that,” the officer said.
On April 25, 2016, Tabarak and his then teenage brother Haroon Ali were part of a group of five, three of them hardcore terrorists, sent on a mission of subversion from Kaldio in Pakistan’s Sabazkot, the Army said.
“The three terrorists – Mohd Kafil, Mohd Ali and Yasin – planned to plant improvised explosive devices on the operational track near forward posts used by the Indian Army.”
In December 2019, another of Tabarak’s younger brothers, Mohd Sayeed, was caught almost at the same spot where he was shot and injured by the Army on Sunday.
Rajouri SSP Mohammad Aslam said Tabarak’s interrogation after he is discharged from hospital would possibly reveal more of the intruders’ plans.
