Hokies settle for goalless draw in home opener

Leading goal scorer Tori Powell recorded three shots on goal with six attempts during the Indiana match, her first on goal kick was unsuccessful at 31:09 in the first half.
Aino Vuorinen tried to kick the ball into the corner of the net with 17 minutes left in the half, but could not make it past the Hoosiers’ goalkeeper. Not for a lack of effort and determination, the Hokies were unable to record their first win at home.
“We created four or five great opportunities that we need to be able to stick away,” said head coach Chugger Adair. ” I’m happy we got better from day one to today, but disappointed we didn’t take chances and get this game on the front foot and win the result.”
Taylor Price had one of the best shots of the game as she tried to get the ball rolling in the second half with a low shot up the middle, passed by Natalie Mitchell.
Powell found herself with a couple of opportunities to win the game but was stopped by the Indiana goalkeeper just outside the goal box. Powell leads the team in career shots with 103 after today’s game. Virginia Tech put together 11 shots in the last 30 minutes of the game while keeping the Hoosiers down to zero.
Making her first career start, goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove recorded a clean sheet for the Hokies blocking two shots on goal.
