  • PLAYOFF CLASS — L
  • CONFERENCE — CTC
  • 2021 RECORD — 0-10
  • RETURNING STARTERS (off/def) — 6/6

[THEY’RE HERE]

  • DEREK JACKSON, Jr. QB (5-9, 165)
  • JOSH RODRIGUEZSoph. RB
  • HUNTER BAILEY

[REASON TO CHEER]

The team returns six starters on each side of the ball and welcomes Whitney Tech back to the co-op after a year away.

[REASON TO FEAR]

The program hasn’t won a game since beating Wilcox/Kaynor … on Thanksgiving 2019.

[THE BOTTOM LINE]

VG Techs went 0-10 last season with what amounted to a small, junior varsity roster decimated by the lost pandemic year. Those players took their lick and now, with a year under their belts, the volume of returning starters should translate into some improvement, if not victories, based on experience alone. Getting a couple of capable players from Whitney Tech would also help progress. The schedule, however, is another story: It’s is who’s-who of top CTC teams for a majority of the first two months of the season. So unless this group gels quickly, wins figure to be tough to come by.

[THE BIG GAMES]

  • CHENEY TECH, Sept. 9, 6 p.m.
  • QUINEBAUG VALLEY, Oct. 21, 6 p.m.
  • at Wilcox/Kaynor, Nov. 23, 6 p.m.
