Tech to face Delaware Thursday night at Thompson Field

Birds-Eye View

First Meeting Since 1994: Virginia Tech is 0-1 in the all-time series record against Delaware, having last competed against the Blue Hens in 1994 on Thompson Field. The Hokies fell to the Blue Hens 3-1. Since then, the Hokies have not lost to a Colonial Athletic Association school since 2004. Last time competing against a CAA school, the Hokies won 4-3 against William and Mary in their 2022 season-opener.

Delaware (1-0-1): Delaware started the 2022 season with a 3-0 win over Delaware State. The Blue Hens went 26-6 against the Hornets in total shots, making 11 on goal. Delaware versus Villanova, the Blue Hens tied 1-1 being out shot 12-10. Delaware is coming back from a 5-11-2 season in 2021. The team’s lead goalkeeper, Lauren Krinsky, graduated last year but the team held on to their top goal scorer Sara D’Appolina. Delaware was picked to finish seventh in the CAA conference preseason poll behind Elon in sixth.

Virginia Tech (1-0-1): Hokies return to Thompson field after a 0-0 tie against Indiana. Tech out shot Indiana 19-5 with 10 shots in the last 30 minutes of the game. Having taken over half of their shots in second half of the game, the Hokies have denied their opponents any goals in the second half. Tech started the season against William & Mary scoring four goals, marking the first time the team has scored four or more goals in a season-opener since 2014. Junior Tori Powell has taken a lead role on the team with 13 shots and two goals in the first two games of the season. Goalkeeper Lauren Hargrove left with a clean sheet in her first career start against the Hoosiers. Hargrove blocked two shots in 90 minutes of play, proving she can be a starter and close out a game. In the first match, she took over as goalie with 9:00 left in the first, denying the Tribe from making any additional goals in the second half.

PARKING

Fans are encouraged to park in Lot 1 (Coliseum West Lot) near Lane Stadium and Thompson Field, or Lot 2 (Stadium Lot) near Lane Stadium.
