LUBBOCK, Texas – The New Mexico women’s soccer team began its road schedule with a 1-1 draw at Texas Tech Thursday night at the John Walker Soccer Complex. The Lobos (1-1-1) and Red Raiders (1-1-1) traded first half goals before playing a scoreless second half.

Jadyn Edwards scored her fourth goal of the season to lead the Lobos, as she has now scored in back-to-back contests.

The Red Raiders took the lead after just six minutes when Macy Schultz received a cross and slotted home a shot from six-yards out. The Lobos drew even in the 40th minute on Edwards’ fourth goal of the season. She intercepted a ball in the midfield, beat the Texas Tech defense and scored on the breakaway to tie the game.

Chances were few for both teams in the second half, as each defense held strong over the final 45 minutes.

The Red Raiders outshot the Lobos 13-5 in the game and had a 9-0 corner-kick advantage. Alli Davis made four saves in goal for UNM.

“We want to represent our state at the highest level,” said UNM head coach Heather Dyche. “To come here and get a point on the road against a very good Big 12 team is something we are really proud of. This team competes.”

The Lobos will return to action next Thursday when they host Portland State. Game time at the UNM Soccer Complex is 7:30 p.m.
