The motive behind the murder could be property and money, says Sonali Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka

The Goa police have arrested two persons — Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh — in connection with the murder case of Sonali Phogat. Reportedly, Sudhir (the personal assistant of the deceased 42-year-old Haryana BJP leader and actress) confessed to have spiked her drink when they were partying at a shack. We spoke to Sonali’s youngest brother, Rinku Dhaka, who said, “All family members and relatives will have a meeting at 5 pm to decide the future course of action and announce it. The final rites happened yesterday.

Rinku suspected foul play soon after reaching Goa on August 23. He said, “We were informed about her passing at 8.30 am and we felt that something was amiss. However, we didn’t anticipate it to be so ugly. After I reached Goa at 8 pm on August 23, I called up Sudhir immediately to understand what happened. He told me that he was in the hotel room and the body was in the Goa Medical College. He said, ‘If you want to see the body go there and if you have any work with me, meet me in the hotel.

aa kar milo. After seeing the body, I went to the police station following which Inspector Desai accompanied me to the hotel where Sudhir was staying. The inspector did all the talking with him.”

The actress was taken to Goa on the pretext of a film shoot. Rinku said, “I didn’t see any actor or film shoot. There was no one apart from Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh.”

He added, “Yesterday DGP GOA said she was forced to drink spiked water. Drugs
diya hai paani mein zabardasti daal kar according to the CCTV footage. On the basis of which, the police arrested them and Sudhir has confessed, too. While we know that he spiked her drink, we still aren’t clear about the motive.

While the family is still looking for answers, Rinku suspects that the motive behind the murder could be Sonali’s property. He said, “Definitely property
gold money
ka hai. A theft had taken place at Sonaliji’s farmhouse in Hisar on February 1, 2021. During her stay in Goa, Sonaliji learnt that Sudhir and his planned it. She called us on the night of her murder to inform us about it and said that she would ask for a police investigation into the theft.”

He added, “Another theft took place at her farmhouse after her murder. Her laptop, mobile phone and the CCTV footage were stolen. The caretaker of the farmhouse, Satish, informed us about it and we registered a complaint at the local police station.”

The family seeks justice as they await to announce their future course of action. “We want justice to be meted out and the culprits meet their fate,” he concluded.
