Virginia Tech true freshman Mansoor Delane has been limited throughout most of the Hokies’ fall camp, but over the past week or so, some buzz has generated throughout Blacksburg about the former three-star prospect being a freshman to watch this fall.

On Friday, Pierson Prioleau met with members of the media via Zoom and gave his own take on Delane.

“A lot of the young guys are progressing really well, Mansoor is one of those guys,” Prioleau said. “He has a lot of natural abilities and a good conceptual awareness of the game, so he picks up things easily. He is one of the guys that is doing well and progressing well in his learning curve. It’s advantageous for us to have a younger guy be that progressive in his game this early because it gives us an opportunity to bring him along faster to help this defense.”

As a three-star recruit, Delane committed to Virginia Tech over Maryland coming out of Archbishop Spalding. He also held Power Five offers from Michigan State, Illinois, Minnesota, Boston College, Louisville, Vanderbilt, and Virginia, among others.

According to the 247Sports industry-generated Composite ranking system, Delane was considered a Top 700 player during the 2022 recruiting class, checking in at No. 651 and the No. 50 cornerback prospect in the class.

He was listed as the No. 15 player in the state of Maryland for the 2022 recruiting class.
