The Cardinals Travel South for Showdown with Bulldogs

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Ball State soccer team returns to the pitch for a match for the first time in 10 days. The Cardinals and the Butler Bulldogs are slated for a 7 p.m. kick on Thursday in Indianapolis.

Last Time Out

Ball State defeated Valparaiso 3-0 in the last contest on Sunday, Sept. 4. Avery Fenchel led the squad with two goals, while Delaney Caldwell recorded her first collegiate goal. Emily Roper picked up her first collegiate point with an assist. Bethany Moser recorded a shutout in goal for BSU.

Season Leaders

The Cardinals are led by Fenchel with three goals on the year. Caldwell and Lexi Fraley are tied for second on the team with one goal each. Roper has the team’s lone assist. Moser has been a force in goal for Ball State and has 22 saves with two solo and one combined shutout.

Series Outlook

Ball State enters Thursday’s match with a 1-3-2 record, while Butler holds a 3-4 mark. The Bulldogs hold a 5-3 series lead and won the last three meetings, including a 3-0 victory last season in Muncie. Ball State has a slight 2-1 advantage in matches played at Butler, including the last two matches in Indianapolis.

Scouting the Bulldogs

Butler is led by Katie Soderstrom, who is third in the NCAA with three game-winning goals. Soderstrom has five goals and two assists in seven matches. Abigail Isger, Alli Leonard, and Sara Trandji each have collected two goals. Alexei Whittaker and Alana Wood are tied for the team lead with two assists. Anna Pierce has been the primary keeper for the Bulldogs. Pierce has made 23 saves and surrendered six goals.
