Agastya Nanda Reveals Surprising Lack of Awareness about Grandfather Amitabh Bachchan’s Staggering Fame for Years
Agastya Nanda, the grandson of the legendary Amitabh Bachchan, shared an intriguing revelation about his early years,
Admitting to being blissfully unaware of the immense popularity of his “nanu” (grandfather).
Agastya, who marked his debut last month with Zoya Akhtar’s Netflix India film “The Archies,” recalled that the Bachchan household had an unwritten rule of not bringing work home. This meant that discussions about the entertainment industry seldom occurred within the family’s private space. Consequently, Agastya Nanda perceived his grandfather, the iconic Amitabh Bachchan, as a regular grandparent, blissfully ignorant of the global fame that surrounded him.
During an interview with Film Companion, Agastya Nanda recounted the moment when he first grasped the magnitude of his nanu’s stardom. It wasn’t within the walls of his home but rather at his school in Delhi when Amitabh Bachchan made a surprise visit. Agastya Nanda vividly described the occasion, saying, “The way my family has been, they don’t bring work home. Like my nana never spoke about work at home. So I found it very normal. I thought like okay, he’s a normal granddad but I only realized when he came to school on annual day that oh god, he is someone.
It was so normal up till then. (We had) grandparents day in school in Delhi. When he’d show up, everyone would go crazy, and I was like I just don’t get this, why is everyone going crazy. That’s when I realized. And then of course, when I started watching cinema, I was like okay, he’s kind of good at this.”
This revelation offers a glimpse into the privacy maintained by the Bachchan family, shielding their home life from the glamour and frenzy associated with the film industry. Agastya Nanda innocent realization at school reflected the stark contrast between his family’s ordinary life at home and the extraordinary adulation his grandfather received from the public.
Amitabh Bachchan, who has consistently refrained from bringing his work into the family space, continued this tradition even after Agastya Nanda recent foray into the film industry. Following the release of “The Archies,” Amitabh maintained his customary Sunday rendezvous with fans outside his residence. On his official blog, he shared photos of the meet-and-greet session, where Agastya accompanied him, marking the continuation of a cherished tradition.
In the blog post, Amitabh expressed his gratitude for the enduring interest and love shown by fans, emphasizing the multi-generational legacy that continues to thrive within the Bachchan family. He wrote, “The interest is ever more loved than the Capital… And the legacy lives on… Father to son to son to son and then grandson… and the principal ever the reality of the base that built it.”
Agastya Nanda, the son of Shweta Bachchan and Nikhil Nanda, emerges as the third-generation actor in the illustrious Bachchan lineage. The family’s commitment to maintaining a sense of normalcy amidst the glittering world of Bollywood underscores their unique approach to fame and success. As Agastya Nanda ventures further into the film industry, his perspective on his grandfather’s stardom serves as a charming anecdote, adding a touch of innocence to the otherwise glamorous Bachchan narrative.
As Agastya Nanda takes his initial steps in the world of cinema with “The Archies,” the Bachchan family’s commitment to humility and privacy in the face of fame becomes increasingly evident. Amitabh Bachchan’s decision to keep work conversations at bay within the household has likely contributed to Agastya Nanda unassuming perspective on his grandfather’s celebrity status.
The continuation of the Sunday meet-and-greet tradition, with Agastya Nanda by Amitabh’s side, paints a heartwarming picture of family bonds and shared experiences. The photos shared on Amitabh’s blog capture not only the actor’s connection with his fans but also the passing down of a cherished ritual to the next generation. The acknowledgment of the ever-growing interest from fans emphasizes the enduring appeal of the Bachchan legacy.
