Uttarakhand Police Accuses NGO of Fueling Haldwani Violence, Issues Stern Warning to Benefactors
The Uttarakhand police have taken a firm stance against an NGO allegedly involved in fueling the violence that erupted in Haldwani’s Banbhoolpura areas earlier this month. In a statement issued on social media, the police identified the NGO in question and issued a stern warning to its benefactors, cautioning them that their donations are under scrutiny. The police stated that action is underway to seize the account and registration number of the said NGO.
The genesis of this investigation stemmed from a circulating video on social media Uttarakhand police said , depicting a young man distributing money among individuals in the Banbhoolpura area. The police are diligently probing this footage and have furnished relevant information pertaining to the NGO’s account number, registration number, and PAN number to the Income Tax Department and other pertinent agencies. Specifically, the police emphasized their focus on identifying individuals contributing to the Hyderabad Youth Courage NGO. Furthermore,Uttarakhand police said they underscored their commitment to taking stringent measures against those who unlawfully accept money, provide support to rioters, or disseminate misleading information on social media regarding the violence. The public was urged to refrain from extending support to such NGOs in any capacity.
In a separate development Uttarakhand police found, six individuals were apprehended by the police on Wednesday in connection with the violence that transpired on February 8th. A total of 74 arrests have been made thus far in relation to the incident, which resulted in four fatalities and left 250 policemen injured. The violence erupted during the demolition of an illegal madrassa, prompting the authorities to impose a curfew and authorize shoot-at-sight orders to restore order.
Additionally, the local municipal body issued a recovery notice amounting to ₹2.44 crore against Abdul Malik, a key figure implicated in the violence. Subsequently, the police filed a fresh case of fraud and criminal conspiracy against six individuals, including Malik. The charges against them include orchestrating a criminal conspiracy to deceive government departments and the court through false affidavits. Specifically, they stand accused of fraudulently utilizing a deceased individual’s name for illicit land plotting, construction, and transfer activities.
