Speaker Pelosi and Delegation Travel to Japan to Reinforce Alliance

A Congressional delegation led by Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited Japan August 4-5, 2022 at the conclusion of their travel through the Indo-Pacific region.

The delegation included Representative Greg Meeks (D-NY), Representative Mark Takano (D-CA), Representative Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), and Representative Andy Kim (D-NJ). During their visit, Speaker Pelosi and her delegation met with Prime Minister Kishida Fumio as well as with Japan’s Speaker of the House of Representatives Hosoda Hiroyuki. Speaker Pelosi and her delegation also held a press conference at the U.S. Embassy, hosted a meeting for Japanese business leaders, and met with U.S. servicemembers at Yokota Air Base.

During the press conference, Speaker Pelosi stated: “As Speaker, it is my honor to lead this distinguished Congressional delegation here to Japan as a cornerstone ally and our ally – our good friend in this very important region. This distinguished delegation followed the lead of our great President, President Biden, who made a tremendous focus on the Asian Pacific as very important in many areas in terms of security, in terms of economics and in terms of governance.”
