The day began bright and early for the Lady Raiders with a breakfast at 8 a.m.
With the most important meal of the day behind them, the travel party took to the streets of Europe’s second oldest city.
The day began at the acropolis museum, where players, coaches, staff and members of the travel party split into two groups for a guided private tour of the museum.
The tour which lasted nearly 90 minutes, included a chance to learn about the formation of the Acropolis and the opportunity to see sculptures and artifacts that dated back to before the Persian War in 499 BC.
The Lady Raiders and members of the travel party then took the short walk through the gates of The Acropolis and ascended up the historic marble steps to the highest point in the City of Athens.
Players, coaches and staff took hundreds of pictures and learned more about the historic place enjoy the beautiful early August afternoon.
Around 1 p.m. local time, the members of the travel party hooked it back to the hotel for about two hours of free time. At 3:30 p.m. (local), the Lady Raiders ate a traditional pregame meal.
Game number one beckoned the Lady Raiders to the lobby of the hotel at 5:45 p.m. as members of the travel party boarded the coach bus for the 30-minute ride over to the arena.
Around 7:30 p.m. local time, game number one tipped off! Sparked by an early triple from senior Bryn Gerlich and pair of layups from Jazmaine Lewisthe Lady Raiders rode an early 16-2 run to a 30-7 lead after quarter one.
The fast start allowed Tech to cruise to an 80-41 victory over Ana Liosia Select.

Tomorrow the players will once again have free time in the morning, before game number two against Olympiaos Select tips off at approximately 7 p.m. local (11 a.m. CT).
COACH SPEAK (HC KRISTA GERLICH):
“I liked that we were balanced scoring the basketball tonight. Our kids really shared the ball and we never let down. We platoon subbed quite a bit to get everyone into the game, but also to get some different players playing together. The first group did a great job of getting us started and had great energy. They did a good job of playing with experience. We started our veterans and then our younger players came in and made an impact on the game. We had two freshmen and three sophomores who all have four years of eligibility left on the floor together for extended minutes which was exciting to see. They showed a lot of athleticisms and a great playmaking ability. I did not see always see us execute our offense the way I wanted too because we were getting easy shots especially early. It’s hard because you don’t want to prevent them from taking those shots and ‘playing basketball’ so to speak. But at the same time, we want to work on our offense in a game situation for when it’s not so easy for us to execute as it was tonight.”
