Texas Tech landed one of the top defensive lineman recruits in Texas with Ansel Nedore‘s pledge, which he announced via social media Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound three-star recruit and Texas Top 100 prospect chose the Red Raiders over six other reported offers including Baylor, Houston, TCU, SMU, Texas and UTSA.
Nedore is rated as the No. 423 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 51 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 72 overall player in Texas for the 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite, an average of the major recruiting rankings services in the industry. Nedore tallied 57 tackles, 11 stops for loss, one sack, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and a blocked punt last season at Round Rock. He also recorded a 42-1 shot put and a 109-4 discus as a junior in February according to his recruiting profile.
Inside the Red Raiders asked Nedore to describe what he brings to the field as a player.
“I bring energy and speed,” Nedore said.
Nedore picked up a scholarship offer from Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire back in November.
“I was called into my head coach Jeff Cheatham’s office and we talked a little bit. He tells me about Texas Tech’s new head coach Mr. McGuire, gets him on the phone and through a little conversation he told me how it was and offered me right there on the phone,” Nedore told ITRR.”My reaction was really just being thankful for being in the position I’m in and relief because I see all the hours I’ve put in mentally and physically into this is paying off.”
Nedore then visited Texas Tech for a junior day in January and took an official visit in June.
Nedore is the fifth defensive lineman and 25th overall pledge on Texas Tech’s commitment list for this recruiting cycle. Texas Tech’s 2023 recruiting class currently ranks 17th in the nation according to 247Sports.

“I think it’s the way we recruit and the staff really buying into how we’re recruiting,” Head coach Joey McGuire told 247Sports about Texas Tech’s impressive 2023 recruiting class. “I think the relationships we have in-state I think has a lot to do with it. I think we’ve gotten a lot of this 2023 class, especially everyone we have committed, they’ve been on campus either for a junior day during the season at the last part or two or three junior days and to be able to get them on campus and let them see what Lubbock is all about. I think that’s been a huge help for us.”
