The St. Louis Cardinals are toying with the Colorado Rockies on Thursday afternoon.

They were up 12-0 at the end of the seventh inning, with a masterful Adam Wainwright on the mound and a phenomenal showing by the offense as a whole.

One of the players contributing in the laugher was future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols.

The 42-year-old slugger, who is in his last season as an active MLB player, hit his 690th career home run.

He did it in grand style, too.

Pujols went yard with the bases loaded in the third inning, his 11th home run of the season in a part-time role.

Pujols Is As Hot As Anybody In The Bigs

After struggling for much of the season, a recent hot streak has his numbers looking very respectable.

In 189 plate appearances, the multiple MVP award winner is slashing a fine .254/.332/.476 with 34 RBI and a .808 OPS.

For a part-time player like him, those numbers are very, very good, especially considering his advanced age.

It looks like the All-Star break gave him some new life.

In his last seven games, the hulking first baseman/designated hitter is slashing .500/.550/1.222 with four home runs and 10 RBI.

He’s been hot for a while, too: over his last 15 contests, he is hitting .400/.455/.850; and the slash line is .333/.384/.667 over his last 30 games.

As you can see, Pujols still has some juice left in his bat.

It appears he is determined to go out in style, as a productive MLB hitter against pitchers half his age.

Cooperstown is waiting for him when he retires, even if it’s highly unlikely to hit the 10 home runs he needs to get 700.

There is just no way he isn’t a first-ballot Hall of Famer five years from now.
