American Airlines has removed thousands of domestic and international flights from its November schedule, according to data from aviation analytics company Cirium.

The carrier has cut 31,000 flights during November – equivalent to 16 per of its schedule – with the largest cuts between Chicago O’Hare and Dallas-Fort Worth, as well as between Boston and Philadelphia.

The carrier, which has already cut more than 19,000 flights this year, said the cuts reflect network and schedule planning throughout the year, according to a Reuters report.

“Preliminary schedules are published 331 days in advance and then adjustments are made closer in based on the schedule we intend to operate,” the airline said.

“We are now loading schedule adjustments approximately 100 days in advance, which is in line with how we adjusted our schedule in 2019 prior to the pandemic.”

Earlier this week, the US-based carrier announced an agreement with Boom Supersonic to purchase up to 20 Overture aircraft, which travel at about twice the speed of today’s fastest commercial aircraft.
