Beaumont featured as travel destination, dubbed ‘Cajun Capital of Texas’

Beaumont recently received notoriety as a travel destination in two publications and was dubbed the “Cajun Capital of Texas.”
Southern Living and Texas Monthly highlighted the Southeast Texas town and all it offers as a travel destination.
In July, Southern Living published an article titled “Beaumont Is the Cajun Capital of Texas You Need to Know About” and Texas Monthly followed up this story in August with a piece titled “Do a Weekend, Not Just a Pit Stop, in Beaumont.”
Both publications showcased the museums, art, culture and dining opportunities to take in while traveling around the area. The 1900s early oil boom, the Cajun-inspired culture, and popular places to eat were also mentioned. In addition, the unique landscape of bayous, swamps and seashore make for a unique habitat for birdwatching and paddling along streams, according to the Southern Living post.
Southern Living highlighted Spindletop and Beaumont’s rich history of black gold and the local eats, with Rao’s Bakery noted as the go-to spot for an annual Mardi Gras king cake; the Big Thicket National Preserve was featured due to its 108,000-acre natural preserve and birdwatching opportunities.
The area’s birdwatching was similarly discussed in the Texas Monthly article.
Texas Monthly said, “along with its rich Cajun culture, Beaumont has a thriving restaurant scene, alligator sanctuaries and museums that rival institutions in much bigger cities,” adding that the area “has some of the country’s best birdwatching sites and hundreds of thousands of acres of protected shoreline, forests and bayous to explore.”
