How Gaming Influences Fashion – Salon Prive Mag
[ad_1]
Gaming continues to be one of the most popular forms of entertainment with more than half of the world’s population describing themselves as gamers. That figure shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given that everyone carries a pocket gaming machine with them wherever they go and there is a very wide variety of titles for them to choose from.
This includes everything from simple puzzles to complex battle royales, as well as traditional card games like blackjack and baccarat. Demand for this last category is also helped by the fact that most online casinos offer bonuses to new players to let them try out what they provide.
With gaming permeating our culture in a big way, it was only going to be a matter of time before it influenced other areas of our lives. One of these is fashion, where the games that are popular can affect the types of clothes we wear.
Branded T-shirts And Other Merchandise
Of course, the most obvious way this happens is through branded T-shirts and other garments that come printed with logos, characters, items, and even slogans from the game on them. This is very similar to movie and television merchandise, just with different intellectual property printed on them.
Walk through any town or city and you won’t have to look hard to find people wearing video-game-inspired clothing items. While you’ll find these for just about any major modern release, you’ll find a lot of clothing products branded with Nintendo characters and those from Epic Games titles like Fortnite as these companies have embraced branded merchandise more than others.
Influencing Styles
This isn’t the only way gaming influences fashion though. We can also see plenty of examples of where the red carpet and the catwalk have looked to video games for inspiration.
Back in 2016, One Direction member Zayn Malik attended the legendary Met Gala wearing a suit with metal “bionic” arms. While this helped the singer to turn a lot of heads outside the famous art gallery in New York, he wouldn’t have looked out of place in a game like Halo.
Cosplay
Cosplay is another channel for gaming to influence fashion. While most cosplay, which is the act of dressing up as a character from a film, TV show, or game, is done at events like Comic Con, it sometimes finds its way into everyday life.
You don’t have to look hard on social media to find an entire subculture of people who enjoy wearing fashion items found in video games. They may not go all in while they’re walking around town, but there are often subtle hints that you can spot in their fashion choices.
