Celebrity wardrobe stylist and fashion editor Jazmin Whitley is no stranger to the ins and outs of the fashion industry.

She has styled everything from A-list red carpet events, music videos, award shows, book covers, magazine covers, editorials, and fashion shows to personal events like weddings, birthday events, and special occasions.

A well-known face behind the scenes, Whitley has dressed many influential people and her brand, Styled by Jazmin, has been named on many bestseller lists.

In one TikTok video, the fashion professional taps into her years of experience to share with viewers what she believes are a few stylist faux pas and why she would never do them.

“Five things I would never do as a celebrity wardrobe stylist,” Whitley says at the start of the video.

The first fashion mistake Whitley mentions has to do with when stylists put something on their clients just because it is trendy.

She proceeds to add that just because something is on-trend, it does not mean that it is specifically flattering to your figure.

She uses the example of low-rise jeans, which are incredibly popular right now due to their rapid wear by many influencers and models.

The next fashion sin Whitley tells viewers is when wardrobe stylists skip tailoring and do not make sure the fit is correct.

As a celebrity stylist, she has had to work events sometimes that are last minute so there may be no time for tailoring.

If there is time, Whitley says to not skip out on that part of the styling process because that is what makes the outfit appear polished and complete.

The third fashion no-no is to put something high-end or designer on a client just because it’s designer.

“It has to be a look and a vibe, and I think that people get really caught up in, like, brands…” Whitley states.

She tosses out the high-end brand Balenciaga as an example, which is a major fashion powerhouse.

“Just because it’s Balenciaga doesn’t mean it’s going to, like, hit on the carpet or, like, be your look,” she claims. “It’s not really indicative of, like, a killer look.”

Whitley’s biggest stylist pet peeve is sizing, so it makes sense why it is her fourth style mistake she tells viewers.

“I would never make my client squeeze into something that’s, like, too small,” she explains.

In her opinion, it comes across as a tacky, inexpensive look, if the size is off.

The final fashion error the stylist mentions goes hand-in-hand with the previous mistake, and that is putting a client in an outfit that they are not comfortable in or don’t feel confident in.

“If they’re going to have this weird body language and be awkward and uncomfortable, that’s a no, even if I, like, love the look,” she says in conclusion.

If you’re not comfortable with what you’re wearing, then the clothing won’t be worn well or translate well to the public.

In the end, confidence is key.
