Jadan Blue wants to be “heavily involved in everything”

During the offseason, Virginia Tech received some much-needed help at the wide receiver position when they landed the commitment of Temple transfer Jadan Blue.

Through four seasons at Temple, Blue recorded 1,662 yards receiving and ten touchdowns. 1,067 receiving yards came during the 2019 season.

Shortly after arriving in Blacksburg, Blue and his family suffered a tragedy with the passing of his father, which undoubtedly impacted him emotionally throughout spring camp. This fall, Blue has stepped up to become a leader in the wide receiver room and plans to be a major focal point of the Hokies offense this season.

“I think the biggest thing for him is, and we have talked about him before, just how resilient he is,” wide receivers coach Fontel Mines said. “He holds so much inside, so I think now he is really comfortable with expressing himself and expressing his feelings and talking, having an outlet to talk, and football being another major outlet for him and a lot of other kids. This summer and training camp has allowed him to really zero in on football and focus on football. He is one of the best, just as far as he probably asks the most questions in the room, which is a good thing because it gives the younger guys confidence to be able to speak up and ask questions as well and not feel intimidated by not knowing something. He is heavily involved in everything. He wants to know every single position. Just like Lofton (Da’Wain Lofton), he puts a lot of pressure on himself to perform at a high levelso we just have to be very careful in how I respond to him in certain things, but he has been a tremendous worker and a great addition for us.”

During his 2019 season, Blue recorded a career-high 95 receptions at Temple before quarterback issues began to arise in the Owl’s program.

When Blue transferred to Virginia Tech, he was considered one of the top wide receiver transfers on the market and a four-star prospect.

Virginia Tech will kick off the 2022 season on Friday, September 2, against Old Dominion in Norfolk. The contest will be televised on ESPNU.
