Kinyua named to 2022 ACC Preseason Watch List

Kinyua, a 2021 third team All-ACC selection, will enter his third season with Virginia Tech when the Hokies kick off their campaign against Grand Canyon on Thursday, Aug. 28.
A senior hailing from Nairobi, Kenya, Kinyua has been a steadfast piece of Tech’s lineup in the previous two seasons. He’s started in 29 games for the Hokies since transferring from App. State ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Although he’s only recorded one assist in his time at Virginia Tech, Kinyua has been a true No. 8 in the midfield for the squad. In a season preview, national media outlet College Soccer News tabbed him as “… the glue that hold everything together and a key ingredient in the middle of the park for the Hokies.”
Along with the Preseason Watch List, the ACC also released its 2022 Preseason Coaches’ Poll on Tuesday. Virginia Tech was picked to finish fifth in the ACC Coastal Division behind 2021 NCAA Tournament teams Pitt, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Duke.
