Know Your Foe

Indiana State had a 6-7-4 record in the 2021 season. The Sycamores scored 25 goals last season and return the goal scorers for 24 of them. CeCe Wahlberg, Sasha Thompson and Mackenzie Kent formed a three-pronged attack that combined for 16 goals last season, with all three returning for their senior, junior and sophomore seasons, respectively. ISU has added seven freshmen to its squad for this season.

Series History

Indiana State has an 8-3-2 record against the Mastodons all-time, with the series dating back to 2002. The last time the Mastodons beat the Sycamores was 2012, but the ‘Dons got a draw in Fort Wayne in 2018. The Mastodons did win an exhibition against the Sycamores last season 2-1 at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

Roster Reset

Purdue Fort Wayne’s roster consists of 17 players who have played at least two seasons of college soccer. There are 10 seniors, seven juniors, six sophomores and three freshmen. Last season, the Mastodons were led by three All-Horizon League selections: Morgan Reitano (First Team), Gabrielle Fanning (Second Team) and Beautiful Reitano (All-Freshman Team). The Mastodons return 10 players who started in at least half of last season’s games.

Be Aware!

In the newest rule changes from the NCAA, overtime will no longer be played in the regular season. Overtime will only be played in postseason games, and will no longer be golden goal, meaning both 10-minute overtime periods will be played to completion.

A Look Back

The 2021 edition of the Purdue Fort Wayne women’s soccer program wrapped up with a 5-8-6 record and a berth to the Horizon League Championship. The No. 6 seeded Mastodons fell to No. 3 Northern Kentucky in overtime 1-0. The sixth-place finish in the Horizon League standings was the best of head coach Jason Burr‘s Mastodon career.

Coming Up

The Purdue Fort Wayne women’s soccer team will play another exhibition contest against Goshen on Monday, August 15 at the Hefner Soccer Complex at 7 p.m. This will come after the men’s soccer team also plays Goshen in an exhibition at 1 p.m. on the same day at Hefner.
