Morrisville, N.C. — Travelers and officials are not reporting any major travel issues at Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Labor Day this year.
While some lines may look long at the airport, travelers said they are moving quickly.
Airport officials said they expect there to be a 17% increase in travelers passing through the airport over the holiday weekend this year.
Sunday was a messy travel day for people at airports across the U.S., but so far, Monday is looking better.
According to the flight tracker Flight Aware, more than 2,000 flights were canceled between Sunday night and Monday morning.
There are only two flight cancellations at the airport this morning, according to RDU.
Traveler Erica Pierce said her vacation begins this week. She is headed to Chicago to see her family.
“I’ve had issues with every single flight I’ve taken this year — delays and cancelations,” she said. “I told my parents I hope that they’re my good luck charm and that hopefully we don’t have any issues this go around.”
According to a press release from the airport, summer is the busiest time of the year. Travel ramps up on Memorial Day weekend and slows down after Labor Day.
“RDU airport has set pandemic-era records for passenger traffic throughout the busy summer travel season,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority.
More than 80% of people traveling for Labor Day are opting to drive, according to an estimate from AAA.
