OPS invites EPS, Sasikala and TTV to join hands with him to strengthen AIADMK; Palaniswami rejects truce offer | Chennai News

CHENNAI: A day after the Madras high court ruled in his favour, former chief minister O Panneerselvam on Thursday called upon Edappadi K Palaniswami, V K Sasikala and T T V Dhinakaran to join hands with him to strengthen the AIADMK. However, Palaniswami rejected the truce offer and charged the former chief minister with indulging continuously in anti-party activities.
Talking to reporters at his Greenways Road residence, Panneerselvam stressed the coming together of all those, “whoever it might be,” who stood by late leaders M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa and built up the party.
“Let bygones be bygones… It is not that they have to come to us or we have to go to them. All should unite… That includes Chinnamma (V K Sasikala) and T T V Dhinakaran,” Panneerselvam said.
The cadre wished to see the return of the AIADMK, which had ruled the state for three decades, to power and his responsibility was to realize that, OPS said.
He maintained that he and EPS were elected as coordinator and joint coordinator by the primary members of the party after filing nominations in a single paper in December last following changes to the party bylaw. The posts were created to steer the party successfully, after the demise of late leader Jayalalithaa.
“We get information from various areas that the cadre and the public unanimously want the party to stay united,” he said, urging the rival camps to forget the bitterness of the past and come together.
Palaniswami did not waste time to reject the call. Accusing OPS of going after position, the former chief minister wondered how OPS, who waged a dharamyudh against the Sasikala clan, was inviting them to join hands.
OPS was invited for the general council and allotted a seat on the stage on July 11. “Instead of taking part, he went to the party headquarters ahead of the meeting along with rowdy elements and police personnel. He himself led the supporters in breaking open the doors of the party office. They damaged computers and looted documents. They took away the land documents and damaged the party vehicles. How could we join hands with him?” EPS said. The AIADMK cadre could not obtain bail from the court still, Palaniswami told reporters near his residence.
Flanked by former ministers, Palaniswami squarely blamed OPS for losing the 2021 assembly election with a difference of 3% vote share. Panneerselvam did not accept him as the chief ministerial candidate for a fortnight despite the functionaries backing the latter and continued to oppose EPS as leader of opposition.

“Since he was causing problems every time, the public did not accept the AIADMK. That is why the general council members, district secretaries and the headquarters office-bearers echoed the views of the cadre for single leadership,” EPS said.
The former chief minister accused OPS of having links with the DMK and his son and MP P Ravindhranath hailing the DMK government. MGR had floated the AIADMK to root out the DMK, the evil force, he added.
