Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan booked under anti-terror law

NEW DELHI: Pakistan police on Sunday registered an FIR against former prime minister Imran Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for allegedly threatening an additional sessions judge and senior police officers of the Islamabad Police, at a rally in the capital.
The FIR was registered on the complaint of magistrate Ali Javed in Islamabad’s Margalla police station under Section 7 of ATA.
The FIR states that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman threatened additional sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry and police officers at a rally to “terrorise” police officials and judiciary. The main aim of the intimidation was to prevent the police officers and judiciary from carrying out their legal obligations, said the FIR.

Khan, while addressing a public gathering on Saturday, had threatened to file cases against top police officials, a woman magistrate, Election Commission of Pakistan and political opponents over the treatment meted out to his aide Shahbaz Gillwho was arrested last week on charges of sedition.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah had said the government was mulling filing a case against Khan threatening state institutions.
Sanaullah alleged the speech by the PTI chief was a continuation of a trend to target army and other institutions.
“This is all happening in continuation – from a campaign after Lasbela incident when six army officers were killed followed by Gill’s attempt to incite army ranks to go against their top command and then Imran threatening a woman judge and police officials for performing their duties as per the law,” the minister said.
