Tamannaah Bhatia on how things have changed for female actors

Ever since the beginning, portrayal of women in Indian cinema has been largely unfair. Female characters were never written deeply and they had very little to do in the overall narrative other than looking glamorous. However, things have improved in recent years and all the female actors in the industry are thankful for this change.

Actress Tamannaah Bhatia who has been active for 17 years in the industry says that she wouldn’t want to do the kind of roles she grew up watching. She recently told ETimes, “I feel like today, after being in the industry for 17 years, I don’t think I’d want to repeat that. I don’t think the audience has seen me do so many films in that space.”

Tamannaah further talked about how the rise of OTT platforms have made things better in this context and now it is easier for female actors to get significant and central roles. She stated, “For me as an actor, it’s great. What I could not do 10-12 years ago, I can do now. Also what wouldn’t have been accepted 10-12 years ago, would probably be accepted now.”

On the work front, Tamannaah will soon be seen in films like ‘Gurthunda Seethakalam’ and ‘Babli Bouncer’.
