Tech company expands Dublin operations, adds jobs with big office deal

DUBLIN — A tech company has widened its operations in Dublin with a big office lease that could enable the cloud services company to add several hundred jobs in the East Bay city.
Snowflake has struck a deal to occupy nearly four times as much office space as it has now in Dublin, the company said in comments emailed to this news organization.
“Snowflake’s decision to expand in Dublin demonstrates their continued success as a business” Dublin Mayor Melissa Hernandez said. “We could not be more excited about their growth.”
Following the rental deal, Snowflake will occupy an entire office building at 4140 Dublin Blvd. in Dublin, according to Warrick Taylor, Snowflake’s vice president of global workplace and real estate.
“Snowflake is expanding its Dublin office footprint, growing to occupy an entire building in the Dublin Corporate Center and creating potentially over 500 additional job opportunities for a variety of functions in the coming years,” Taylor said.
Prior to the rental deal, Snowflake occupied roughly 40,000 square feet in Dublin. It now will be able to occupy 153,000 square feet.
The cloud computing and data services tech company generated $1.41 billion in revenue over the one-year period that ended in April 2022. During Snowflake’s 2022 fiscal year, which ended in January 2022, revenues totaled $1.22 billion.
“We expect to increase our employee count not just in California, but across the globe to further mobilize the world’s data and provide value to our customers,” Taylor said.
Montana-based Snowflake estimated that it employed about 4,560 workers during fiscal 2022, according to a regulatory filing.
Snowflake was founded in San Mateo, but in mid-2021, the company said it had decided to designate a city in Montana as its new headquarters.
“We are a corporation with a globally distributed workforce and no corporate headquarters,” Snowflake stated in a quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Due to SEC reporting requirements, Snowflake was obliged to specify an official headquarters site.
Under the Securities and Exchange Commission’s rules, we are required to designate a ‘principal executive office’,” Snowflake stated in a filing in June 2022. “We have designated our office in Bozeman, Montana as our principal executive office.”
Snowflake’s rationale for the location: Both the chief executive officer and the chief financial officer are based at the Bozeman site.
The company continues to maintain an operation in San Mateo, where the company was founded in 2012.
“Not only does this expansion represent Snowflake’s accomplishments, but it will also bring many additional opportunities and benefits to the Dublin community as new jobs are created,” Mayor Hernandez said.
