Tech Freshman Lauren Zaretsky fires opening round 68 at CP Women’s Open

OTTAWA – Incoming Texas Tech women’s golfer and Canada native Lauren Zaretsky fired an opening round 68 at the first round of the LPGA’s CP Women’s Open hosted by the Ottawa Hunt and Golf Club.

The 2021 Canadian Women’s Am Champion began her round on the par-five 10th hole with a birdie. After dropping a pair of shots on the 12th, Zaretsky recorded a pair of birdies on the par three 13th and 15th holes to move to -1 for the championship.

After her lone bogey of the round on 16, the Canadian fired back-to-back pars to make the turn in 35.

Zaretsky got her bogey-free back-nine started with a birdie on the par-four first hole. After three straight pars, the freshman made her most important shot of the day, when she recorded an ace on the par-three fifth.

Zaretsky fired four straight pars to end the round, completing an opening round 68.

The freshman is tied for 19th, just three shots behind leader Emma Talley who fired a back-nine 29 enroute to a six-under round of 65. Zaretsky tees off at 12:31 Friday from the first tee.
