SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — While big cities in New Jersey have a lot to offer visitors, small towns have loads of charm. From a weekend getaway to a beach retreat, these small towns are like hidden gems.

Travel + Leisure magazine recently ranked the 12 best small towns in New Jersey and among them was Cranbury. This Middlesex County town is one of the oldest in the state and has a lot of historical charm.

The magazine listed the local museum and Main Street as an attraction to learn more about its history. It’s also important to note that the entire downtown is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

The Memorial Park and Brainerd Dam provide stunning views of the lake, while The Market on Main is a great place to grab a bite, Travel + Leisure said.

The Cranbury Inn, which has been in existence since the 1750s is a great place to stay overnight.

Other towns to feature on this list were Montclair, Red Bank, West Cape May, Ridgewood, Spring Lake, Tenafly, Lambertville, Flemington, Cranbury, Bay Head and Millburn.
